Open Mic Night - Analysis - 11/10/2012

Last night was the open mic night. Over all the outcome was pretty good and everybody performed very well, but as always there is always room for improvement.

Some of the things I would improve are:

• Start the event a bit later because people were showing up later and missing the beginning acts.
• Plan the timing of each act a bit better so then we have more of an accurate lineup to go by when it comes to the actual night. We could do this by timing each act in preperation for the night and then using that as a template of when everybody is coming on and how long the night is actually going to last.
• We should have gone to the venue before we set a date and time for the gig to see how we were going to set everything up and how much equipment we actually needed so that when we got there on the day we only needed to take minimal equipment and use a suitable amount of space without getting in the way of anything.
• When we performed on the night everybody had forgotten about filming the event as a record of how everybody did when performing. Although some acts did manage to get recorded not all of them were which is a real shame because they all went so well. So for next time everybody should organise someone to take photos and record each act for the event.
• Health and safety was a real issue with the open mic night because when performing, the stage was too small and some people were blocking access too and from the toilets and fire exits which became quite an issue when people wanted to go to the toilet during someones performance.
